The Jabberwocky
by Lewis Carroll
'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought
And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came! | |
One, two! One, two! and through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy. | |
'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe. |
Hooray! I can't wait for the next post. (lame attempt at a comment :D

as was your intent?
The drawings are beautiful! This is one of my favorite poems, too =]
ReplyDeleteBuck! Your exhibit is so amazing! So inspirational. I was entranced and distracted for a good part of creative writing. =]
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Very impressive. Diana, thanks for the link. I'll be interested to hear whether Victoria, Buck, and Fiona intended an allusion.
ReplyDeletethanks for all the great feedback, Im glad the project was well appreciated!
ReplyDeleteas for the allusion, Im not sure. Vicky was the main artist of this project and single handedly did the jubjub bird, bandersnatch and jabberwock. Ill ask her to comment on her thoughts going into the art
Ah, no, I've never seen that image before. I tried to make it look like nothing I've seen before, as I didn't want to end up with the movie version (I'd seen it just the weekend before).
ReplyDeleteyour poems brightened my day. Jaberwocky is one of my favorite poems and I think you guys did a great job of putting art to the poem. Congrats and good work!

Yea, this was a really cool project. I remember randomly seeing the mirror, the paper cranes, and the jabberwocky artwork around Uni and wondering what they were for. I think putting out small parts of poems is effective in reminding people about favorite poems as they go through their everyday lives. Maybe it was for just a few seconds, but the mirror poem made me pause and think about its message.

I think that the artwork was a really good idea! It helps people visualize the poem in a way that the somewhat eccentric poem itself might not allow. Very nice illustrations.
